My Hand or My Bootstrap
To End September
If it can be known, then it can be learned. If one can learn, everyone can learn. And since everyone can learn, how do we decide who has earned an opportunity? In this experiment, how do we eliminate bias? Is it even possible in societies that honor discrimination above all else? It's always the same taste with a slightly different flavor. It may be skin complexion, skin tone, economic status, exposition, phenotype, religion, tribal, or anything else they come up with. So how do we measure merit? It has to be graded on a weighted scale, especially if equity is to be taken into consideration. Actually, let’s acknowledge equality first. Equality is realistic, but the reason why it failed is that equality is the consequence of equity. So, some of us just got a bit too excited. The only way to take theory to real life is to live in reality and make it make sense. So let’s simplify. The focus needs to be on equity, so merit can then be weighted. This will eliminate discrimination and introduce equality. Now, the best can win. Seems simple, but it doesn’t work. That is because we have no idea what the opportunity is or who is presenting it, or why we want it in the first place. Let’s discuss the three main opportunities in life: love, career, and education.
